WEBVTT
00:00:02.303 --> 00:00:10.259
Now, medications certainly have their place, but what if there was a way to support your body naturally by working with your genetics?
00:00:10.580 --> 00:00:13.326
We are a pill for an ill society.
00:00:13.326 --> 00:00:17.294
We take 18 pills per person per American per day.
00:00:17.500 --> 00:00:24.525
It was so hard to find somebody who took my insurance and for me to get well it took thousands of dollars and I thought what do regular people do?
00:00:24.525 --> 00:00:25.649
This is not right.
00:00:25.649 --> 00:00:32.070
Despite my best efforts, I wasn't actually reversing disease and helping people to heal in the way that I thought I would.
00:00:32.070 --> 00:00:35.610
We want to empower yourselves to take care of this root cause.
00:00:35.610 --> 00:00:37.106
We don't just want to cover it up.
00:00:39.481 --> 00:00:44.203
If you want to break the mold of traditional pharmacy and healthcare, you are in the right place.
00:00:44.203 --> 00:00:48.212
Welcome to the Pivoting Pharmacy with Nutrigenomics podcast.
00:00:48.212 --> 00:00:56.061
Here's a little truth bomb.
00:00:56.061 --> 00:00:59.429
We're all unique, down to our DNA, so it's no wonder we react differently to the same medications, foods and environment.
00:00:59.429 --> 00:01:10.828
Here's a million-dollar question how can you discover exactly what your body needs, which medication, what foods or supplements and which exercises are right for you?
00:01:10.828 --> 00:01:16.126
How can you manage chronic conditions like diabetes without more medications?
00:01:16.126 --> 00:01:19.876
How can you lose weight and keep it off?
00:01:19.876 --> 00:01:27.013
How do you tap into your genetic blueprint so you can stop surviving and start thriving in health and life?
00:01:27.013 --> 00:01:30.950
That is the question, and this podcast will give you the answer.
00:01:30.950 --> 00:01:34.489
I'm your host, dr Tamar, lawful doctor of pharmacy.
00:01:34.489 --> 00:01:39.072
Let's pivot into genomics and bring health care to higher levels.
00:01:39.072 --> 00:01:42.849
Hi, welcome back to Pivoting Pharmacy with Nutrigenomics.
00:01:42.849 --> 00:01:48.112
I'm your host, dr Tamar, lawful doctor of pharmacy and certified nutritional genomics specialist.
00:01:48.802 --> 00:01:54.406
Have you ever had that moment where you know something isn't right with your health but you don't know where to turn?
00:01:54.406 --> 00:01:58.310
Maybe the labs say you're fine, but you don't feel fine.
00:01:58.310 --> 00:02:03.489
Maybe you're told to eat better, but no one tells you what that means for your body.
00:02:03.489 --> 00:02:06.085
Or maybe deep down.
00:02:06.085 --> 00:02:10.968
You just know there has to be more to health than prescriptions and rushed doctor visits.
00:02:10.968 --> 00:02:17.008
If that resonates with you, you're not alone and you are absolutely in the right place.
00:02:17.008 --> 00:02:21.070
This episode is your sign to take that first empowered step.
00:02:21.719 --> 00:02:34.823
But before we meet today's guest, I want to thank our listener of the week, elizabeth, who wrote this podcast is truly informative and empowering to support pharmacists and their patients in their health journeys.
00:02:34.823 --> 00:02:36.667
Thank you so much, elizabeth.
00:02:36.667 --> 00:02:40.323
I'm so grateful to have you as part of this community.
00:02:40.323 --> 00:02:48.951
And remember, when you leave a five-star review, you'll get the chance to be featured as our next listener of the week and I'll give you a shout-out right here on the show.
00:02:48.951 --> 00:02:59.175
Now, today, I'm joined by someone who captured the exact feeling of being lost in the system and turned it into something powerful.
00:03:07.199 --> 00:03:14.033
Mannie Bains is the award-winning filmmaker behind the Cure and Inside Job, a documentary that challenges the way we think about wellness and invites us to become our own best health advocates.
00:03:14.033 --> 00:03:24.170
If you've ever felt like the system isn't serving you or you're ready to see your health through a new lens, this episode is your sign to take that first empowered step.
00:03:24.170 --> 00:03:30.802
Listen in Well, Manny.
00:03:30.802 --> 00:03:40.061
Thank you for joining us on Pivoting Pharmacy with Nutrigenomics today, on World Holistic Therapy Day, and we kind of chose a better day to do this interview, as you just mentioned.
00:03:40.061 --> 00:03:49.352
So I want to start from the beginning, Manny in knowing what actually inspired you, as a filmmaker, to dive into this world of holistic health and tell your story through film.
00:03:50.319 --> 00:03:52.980
Yeah, that's such a great question, I mean for me.
00:03:52.980 --> 00:04:02.354
You know, I started a company in 2019 called the Rising Star Movie Experience to create high quality cinematic documentary films to create social change on a global scale.
00:04:02.354 --> 00:04:04.348
I don't want to create films on small topics.
00:04:04.348 --> 00:04:13.191
I want to create films on big topics that are plaguing the majority of society, and I just released my last film Fear, face Everything and Rise just before 2020.
00:04:13.451 --> 00:04:17.026
And I was pondering on what is my next project, what should I talk about?
00:04:17.026 --> 00:04:18.271
And then COVID happened.
00:04:18.271 --> 00:04:22.932
I go, all right, let's talk about health, because so many people are lost, there's so much misinformation.
00:04:22.932 --> 00:04:29.435
I want to study this topic of health and then, more specifically, you know, why wait to be sick in the first place to get healed?
00:04:29.435 --> 00:04:31.997
Why not talk about preventing the disease in the first place?
00:04:31.997 --> 00:04:33.158
Obviously, I had a family member.
00:04:33.158 --> 00:04:37.454
My mom actually healed herself of diabetes through type 2 diabetes.
00:04:37.454 --> 00:04:39.180
So they go, wow, there's something here.
00:04:39.742 --> 00:04:58.410
So then this led me on a journey of diving into holistic health and meeting and interviewing some of the top practitioners in the world in the area of holistic and preventative health, from Canada, us, europe and I downloaded all of their wisdom on the topic of holistic health and we put it into this high quality cinematic documentary film, recure.
00:04:58.410 --> 00:05:01.439
An inside job and it is absolutely amazing.
00:05:01.439 --> 00:05:02.947
It's transforming.
00:05:02.947 --> 00:05:09.571
It's going to give you practical tips and tools you can use to transform your health, but give you the all-encompassing story of what health is.
00:05:09.571 --> 00:05:13.370
You know, everybody thinks health is yeah, I got to eat healthy and exercise, which is part of it.
00:05:13.370 --> 00:05:17.661
But what are the all-encompassing things and things that you can do on a daily basis to improve your health?
00:05:17.661 --> 00:05:28.161
So that was my motivation for creating it to inspire global healing across the world and to transform many people's lives right now who are suffering, who don't know where to turn, who the current system maybe they're not getting the results that they want.
00:05:28.161 --> 00:05:31.290
This film is going to empower them to take a new path for their health and wellness.
00:05:31.759 --> 00:05:36.841
Oh, yes, the great film a lot of information, a lot of empowerment, and we definitely need that in these times.
00:05:36.841 --> 00:05:43.408
Now, you mentioned, you interviewed 11 top health experts, manny, and you captured over 35 hours of content.
00:05:43.408 --> 00:05:49.314
So this may be difficult to do, but what was one interview that completely shifted your perspective on health?
00:05:49.314 --> 00:05:50.216
Oh, gosh.
00:05:50.500 --> 00:05:51.906
Well, obviously, interviewing Dr Wolf.
00:05:51.906 --> 00:05:59.194
I mean he's the protagonist in the film but very passionate, very vocal about holistic health.
00:05:59.194 --> 00:06:10.500
So he just shifted my mindset on just simple things about how food combining, my mindset on just simple things about how, like food combining, like they they recommend not to combine protein and starch because the starch enzyme dissolves the protein enzyme or something.
00:06:10.500 --> 00:06:13.593
But we all love eating our meat and potatoes, so that was interesting.
00:06:14.115 --> 00:06:16.425
You know also the benefits of fasting as well.
00:06:16.425 --> 00:06:18.333
You know, not eating is good.
00:06:18.333 --> 00:06:20.120
We all say, oh, you gotta eat every two, three hours.
00:06:20.120 --> 00:06:21.064
It's like no, no, no, no.
00:06:21.064 --> 00:06:24.420
If we fast, we shut off the system and the body actually heals itself and develop cell regeneration.
00:06:24.420 --> 00:06:25.024
So that was really interesting and I think overall it was just like no, no, no, no, no.
00:06:25.024 --> 00:06:25.968
If we fast, we shut off the system and the body actually heals itself and develops cell regeneration.
00:06:25.968 --> 00:06:31.672
So that was really interesting and I think overall it was just interesting how our current system is set up.
00:06:31.672 --> 00:06:33.692
Now we're not bashing our current system.
00:06:33.692 --> 00:06:49.329
We love it, it's there for a reason, but just to realize that it is a sick care system and a reactive system right, rather than a preventative system, and just how the system is ran, how it's heavily, heavily influenced by insurance, a pharmaceutical company.
00:06:49.329 --> 00:06:54.170
So that was kind of eye-opening to me to kind of see the bigger picture on how everything is ran.
00:06:54.170 --> 00:06:56.848
So that was really an eye-opening perspective for me.
00:06:57.490 --> 00:07:16.413
Yeah, I love that you shared that eye-opening perspective because even as someone in a healthcare field, I didn't know the intricacies of the healthcare system until I went to nutrition health coaching school, integrative nutrition and a lot of that was really exposed and it was jaw dropping to realize how deep it all goes.
00:07:16.413 --> 00:07:20.007
It is indeed sick care not healthcare, but sick care.
00:07:20.007 --> 00:07:25.548
So interesting point and perspective that you drew out from the film.
00:07:25.548 --> 00:07:31.550
Now, Manny, as a storyteller, how did you decide what stayed in the film and what hit the cutting room floor?
00:07:31.550 --> 00:07:32.834
It couldn't have been easy.
00:07:33.461 --> 00:07:35.428
This was the toughest thing as a filmmaker.
00:07:35.428 --> 00:07:43.113
So, as I said, we had 35 hours of content and the longest part was that interview lock, deciding on what to put in and how to cut between the different parts.
00:07:43.113 --> 00:07:47.786
It was a challenge because the practitioner said so much good stuff.
00:07:47.786 --> 00:08:00.435
I think it was sticking down to our four main topics that we had, you know, obviously, um, diet, nutrition, spirituality, also purpose, because we had a few big major topics and then kind of wielded everything around that.
00:08:00.435 --> 00:08:00.896
But it was.
00:08:00.896 --> 00:08:02.502
It was really really hard, you know.
00:08:02.502 --> 00:08:08.420
That's why we have special deleted scenes for people if you go check out, because I wanted to put everything but it would have been like a five hour film.
00:08:08.420 --> 00:08:12.310
So we focused around key topics and then did it around that.
00:08:12.310 --> 00:08:25.007
You know, some of the practitioners, I think, said things that may have been a little controversial and again, that was not my mind, I did a good job of at the start of the film, you know, giving the current system the recognition that it deserves, because we weren't trying to bash anybody like that.
00:08:25.127 --> 00:08:26.110
That's not the goal of the film.
00:08:26.110 --> 00:08:33.662
The goal was empowerment and education, and so I just wanted to give a film whereby people had a general overview of how the system worked.
00:08:33.662 --> 00:08:38.563
But then, you know, keeping it simple, I didn't want to over complicate it, you know, because complexity is the enemy, right?
00:08:38.563 --> 00:08:42.081
How do you keep things simple for the average viewer so they could just take it away.
00:08:42.081 --> 00:08:46.273
But yeah, that took us months, figure out, like doing it over and over and over again.
00:08:46.273 --> 00:08:50.345
And then, when we had the final interview log, I watched it again and I told my director of photography.
00:08:50.345 --> 00:08:51.326
I said delete everything.
00:08:51.368 --> 00:08:52.269
I need to start again.
00:08:52.269 --> 00:08:53.331
It doesn't feel right?
00:08:53.539 --> 00:08:59.346
So it was hours and hours and hours of editing, but we finally got it together, but yeah, it was a tedious process, to say the least.
00:09:01.380 --> 00:09:01.400
I.
00:09:01.400 --> 00:09:12.467
There were any recurring themes or messages that emerged across all those conversations with the practitioners at all.
00:09:13.049 --> 00:09:14.714
Yeah, I mean think definitely nutrition.
00:09:14.714 --> 00:09:16.826
Right, what are some things that we can do?
00:09:16.826 --> 00:09:20.927
What things can we put in our body that just are natural nutrients and supplements?
00:09:20.927 --> 00:09:24.937
Right, like that we all could use, whether you're at whatever stage of your health?
00:09:24.937 --> 00:09:31.070
Right, like one of the practitioners was talking about, like magnesium, how that's like a super important supplement, no matter where you're at.
00:09:31.070 --> 00:09:43.494
And I think what was amazing is dr holly talked about metabolic typing, which is very very interesting, because I didn't know that like how you're supposed to eat for your certain metabolic type, while some people metabolize food in a different way.
00:09:43.533 --> 00:09:55.413
So that was really really new to me to be like, okay, well, if your metabolism slower or you know you should be eating more leafy greens and stuff and and other people do well on like more of a high protein, high fat kind of diet.
00:09:55.413 --> 00:09:59.732
So that was kind of new for me to learn what your metabolic type is, because we're all different.
00:09:59.732 --> 00:10:03.956
Right, I may give you, may have, a diet that works for you, but then you give it to me and it may not work.
00:10:03.956 --> 00:10:09.490
So understanding yourself and your connection with your own body and what it needs, I think is super important as as well.
00:10:09.890 --> 00:10:18.451
I really like that point the individuality and the bio-individuality of us all, and what I do with nutrigenomic testing, that's exactly what that's highlighting.
00:10:18.451 --> 00:10:30.797
It's pinpointing how we do metabolize things differently, whether it's fats, whether it's carbohydrates, and then providing specific nutrition, exercise and supplement regimens that would be needed based on that individuality.
00:10:30.797 --> 00:10:37.268
So, indeed, food is important.
00:10:37.268 --> 00:10:38.192
Nutrition is everything is indeed everything.
00:10:38.192 --> 00:10:39.500
Thanks for highlighting that and you talked about individuality.
00:10:39.520 --> 00:10:50.174
But when you go to the doctor, they want to do a one size fits all model, which doesn't work because everybody's different, so you want to prescribe one solution to a whole heap of different people.
00:10:50.174 --> 00:10:50.956
It's not going to work.
00:10:50.956 --> 00:10:54.611
Plus, you only have 10 minutes with your doctor, so how much advice can you get in that?
00:10:54.832 --> 00:10:55.434
Exactly.
00:10:55.434 --> 00:10:57.009
We do not want cookie cutter.
00:10:57.009 --> 00:10:58.875
We are individuals, we are all unique.
00:10:58.875 --> 00:11:01.533
We want something for us, great points.
00:11:01.533 --> 00:11:06.636
So, maddie, in your view, what sets holistic health apart from conventional approaches to wellness?
00:11:06.884 --> 00:11:08.428
Oh, God, it's so much right.
00:11:08.428 --> 00:11:13.671
I mean, we love our doctors and they help us when we're obviously sick and we have a disease, which is great.
00:11:13.671 --> 00:11:16.788
But like general health, like how do I stay healthy and fit?
00:11:16.788 --> 00:11:18.854
I mean, they're not going to give you that.
00:11:18.854 --> 00:11:19.215
You know.
00:11:19.215 --> 00:11:21.187
It's up to you to do your own research and health.
00:11:21.267 --> 00:11:31.780
And I think holistic health what sets it apart is that it is kind of functional, it is natural, it's non-invasive for the most part and you can kind of use these different remedies that best suits you.
00:11:31.780 --> 00:11:35.253
You know, and I think nature has provided the best healing for us.
00:11:35.253 --> 00:11:36.697
Let's go back to nature.
00:11:36.697 --> 00:11:38.332
You know some of those plant medicines and stuff.
00:11:38.332 --> 00:11:39.640
I think they're really really helpful.
00:11:39.741 --> 00:11:45.865
Understanding nutritionally what your body needs right, because they say all diseases are due to, maybe, nutritional deficiency.
00:11:45.865 --> 00:11:51.094
So understanding what kind of nutrients you need to give your body is great, you know.
00:11:51.094 --> 00:11:58.833
And to do it in a way that doesn't have side effects like drugs, I think is really important and it's all about you learning you right.
00:11:58.833 --> 00:12:00.871
Health is a lifelong journey.
00:12:00.871 --> 00:12:11.716
This room was really to help people go inward and discover for themselves, take it into their own hands, because you can't export all your power to the doctor or anything in any area of your life.
00:12:11.716 --> 00:12:19.946
So this is an opportunity for you to you know, look at your health and control the controllables right we always, no matter what, we always can control what we put in our mouth, right.
00:12:20.347 --> 00:12:21.009
So start there.
00:12:21.009 --> 00:12:23.639
We can always control how we set our day.
00:12:23.639 --> 00:12:31.676
Do we set our day with, you know, meditative practices, gratitude, things that are going to set you up for the day, as opposed opposed to just rushing into your day on autopilot, like rushing around.
00:12:31.676 --> 00:12:36.292
So things that are in your control you want to take more power of that's.
00:12:36.292 --> 00:12:40.172
What sets it apart is that it's in your hand and it's natural and it's non-invasive, I would say.
00:12:40.835 --> 00:12:49.212
Yeah, I truly love that point you brought out, because we have to be our own wellness advocates and I believe your film is really encouraging people to do that.
00:12:49.212 --> 00:12:51.556
But for some people, what does that look like?
00:12:51.556 --> 00:12:54.259
To be my own wellness advocate?
00:12:54.259 --> 00:12:55.100
What would you say?
00:12:55.684 --> 00:12:58.073
I would say number one is to do your own research.
00:12:58.073 --> 00:12:58.886
I mean, right now.
00:12:58.886 --> 00:13:00.974
You are blessed with the Internet and things like that.
00:13:00.974 --> 00:13:07.245
Now it's not to trust everything you read online, but you have the ability to do your own research right Now.
00:13:07.245 --> 00:13:10.572
Back in the 50s, before there was Internet or anything, people had to trust.
00:13:10.893 --> 00:13:14.346
You know the practitioner and they put all of their trust in the, in the person with the white coat.
00:13:14.346 --> 00:13:19.609
But I think now, with different avenues, you can speak to different people and you can learn and research.
00:13:19.609 --> 00:13:23.197
So I think that's your number one is education, education, education.
00:13:23.197 --> 00:13:29.374
That's what being your own wellness advocate is, and it's to not delegate that power to anybody else but yourself.
00:13:29.374 --> 00:13:30.816
You know and understand that.
00:13:30.816 --> 00:13:41.174
You know nobody is responsible but your health, but you, and by you being a role model in that example, you also inspire other people, Like, if you're a mom, do it, you know, inspire your kids and things like that.
00:13:41.174 --> 00:13:45.144
So it's to really take it into your own hands and do your own knowledge and research for sure.
00:13:45.245 --> 00:13:46.586
Yeah, and definitely you.
00:13:46.586 --> 00:13:50.149
I say this often, but many people have this white coat syndrome.
00:13:50.149 --> 00:14:05.701
When they see the doctor, they don't feel like they can ask questions, they don't feel like they have that right to, and that is definitely a misconception that many people have so true, because you know you go to your doctor and you ask a question.
00:14:05.760 --> 00:14:14.386
Sometimes you know they think that they're the professional, they think they're better than you and I remember one time my doctor trying to make not consciously, but he kind of made me feel stupid for asking a question, kind of thing.
00:14:14.386 --> 00:14:17.134
So yeah, people do feel that disempowerment, you know.
00:14:17.134 --> 00:14:22.014
But once you do your own research, you're equipped to have better questions, to then go ask your GP.
00:14:22.014 --> 00:14:25.530
Right and always second opinions are good.
00:14:25.530 --> 00:14:28.437
Speak to people like Dr Tamar, who has this experience as well.
00:14:36.205 --> 00:14:39.638
So go out there, seek your own knowledge, and knowledge is power and once you do that, you'll be in a better position to ask your primary care physician better questions.
00:14:39.638 --> 00:14:39.879
Yeah, indeed.
00:14:39.879 --> 00:14:45.275
Now are there a few other misconceptions you can think of that people may have about holistic health that your film helps clear up.
00:14:45.745 --> 00:15:03.677
Yeah, I think some of the misconceptions is that it's kind of woo-woo or that you know it may not work for me, or that holistic health is not like accredited but at the end of the day, you know, you got to look at doctors only get a small schooling of nutrition.
00:15:03.677 --> 00:15:05.245
Right, they're not taught in nutrition.
00:15:05.245 --> 00:15:10.587
So, yeah, to say that it's fluff, I think the door is opening now it's becoming mainstream.
00:15:10.587 --> 00:15:13.073
Yeah, to say that it's fluff, I think the door's opening, now it's becoming mainstream.
00:15:13.073 --> 00:15:29.193
But because it may not have the credibility, this film aims to kind of break that down by just keeping us into simple topics, you know, and just explaining in a way that holistic or not, you know we all know we should be doing better things right, and so, at the end of the day, it's in your hands.
00:15:29.684 --> 00:15:32.645
Yeah, it definitely is Now your cast.
00:15:32.645 --> 00:15:37.615
As we mentioned before, a variety of practitioners and experts in the health field.
00:15:37.615 --> 00:15:40.360
They offer various products and services, right?
00:15:40.360 --> 00:15:46.258
So what role do you believe collaboration plays in transforming health care?
00:15:47.325 --> 00:15:59.907
I think it plays a huge role, but it requires a huge paradigm shift in thinking because right now, each industry is siloed right and each practitioner wants to feel like that they know best.
00:15:59.907 --> 00:16:03.155
But the more that we can have collaboration would be such a good thing.
00:16:03.155 --> 00:16:09.548
You know doctors collaborating with, like holistic health or mental health people, but it's all for the benefit of the patient.
00:16:09.548 --> 00:16:17.254
So I think collaboration is key and is the future, and the more doctors and physicians that can actually do that, the more that the patient will benefit.
00:16:17.254 --> 00:16:25.908
But it definitely takes a paradigm shift because right now, if you ask a doctor to collaborate with another practitioner, they may do it, but they're so overworked themselves.
00:16:25.908 --> 00:16:27.774
These doctors are working 10, 12 hour days.
00:16:27.774 --> 00:16:28.576
They're burnt out.
00:16:28.576 --> 00:16:30.948
They barely have enough time for themselves.
00:16:30.948 --> 00:16:34.116
The last thing they're going to want to do is do something new, right.
00:16:34.116 --> 00:16:41.914
But that's why I think if a policy changed or something like that you know from above, it would help foster the better well-being of the patient.
00:16:42.105 --> 00:16:48.510
Yes, collaboration is key because you have all these new modalities, dr Tamra, that have come in in the past 20, 30 years.
00:16:48.510 --> 00:16:59.503
Right Before there was only maybe one or two, but now you've got all these amazing modalities with technology and new science and new research that can help facilitate better healing in a person.
00:16:59.503 --> 00:17:08.299
Even something like Reiki or like stretch mobility of what Kim's doing, how to stretch your body differently these can help add better arsenal to the physios and the chiropractors.
00:17:08.299 --> 00:17:16.628
So there needs to be policy to make more collaboration and make people open to working with other practitioners, because at the end of the day, who's the most important person?
00:17:16.628 --> 00:17:18.032
It's not you, it's the patient.
00:17:18.032 --> 00:17:19.155
We want the patient to benefit.
00:17:19.585 --> 00:17:21.574
Yes, indeed, they are number one.
00:17:21.574 --> 00:17:32.728
It's also mainly for them and collaboration is so important, because one practitioner does not have all the answers, they do not have all the answers, so collaboration is definitely important.
00:17:32.728 --> 00:17:47.645
Now, now, in this journey that you you had as a director of this film, was there a mindset shift you personally had that now guides how you care for your own health, Manny that's such a great question.
00:17:47.906 --> 00:17:54.919
Yes, I mean, after diving into this content and watching it over and over again, you know you're more aware of the actions that you take.
00:17:54.919 --> 00:17:57.334
I'm more conscious of what I put in my body.
00:17:57.334 --> 00:17:59.111
Do I cheat and have cheat days?
00:17:59.111 --> 00:18:02.710
Absolutely, I'm not going to sit here and be a perfect person, but I'm aware now.
00:18:02.710 --> 00:18:07.828
Before I wasn't as aware, I wasn't as conscious, but now I'm more conscious.
00:18:07.828 --> 00:18:08.951
Which is so wild?
00:18:08.951 --> 00:18:11.198
I'll go out somewhere and I'll say you know what?
00:18:11.198 --> 00:18:15.415
I'll take that burger and the chicken, but I'm not going to take the fries because it's got seed oil in it.
00:18:15.644 --> 00:18:16.915
Like I'm conscious of this stuff.
00:18:16.915 --> 00:18:18.570
I'm getting different almond milk.
00:18:18.664 --> 00:18:27.412
I'm getting almond milk from a grocery store that just has two, three ingredients Like I'm aware, right, and that awareness once you stretch the elastic band, like you can't come back right.
00:18:27.412 --> 00:18:34.472
So I am more aware and I and I do make it you know my business to take care of more of my health and train and stuff.
00:18:34.472 --> 00:18:34.954
It's just.
00:18:34.954 --> 00:18:45.088
It's so interesting because then you walk around and you see how many people you know are operating unconsciously, um, how much the media has conditioned us to follow certain patterns.
00:18:45.128 --> 00:18:59.686
You know, I think, when you watch tv, every commercial is for food, right, and yeah, just be aware of that, you know, and and um 80, 20, you know, is on your 80 good, or you just have some healthy patterns um in your life and that's a good thing.
00:18:59.686 --> 00:19:03.554
So, yeah, definitely more conscious and aware of what goes in, for sure.
00:19:03.996 --> 00:19:05.300
Yeah, thanks for sharing that with us.
00:19:05.300 --> 00:19:12.359
So you learned a lot from doing this documentary and you took action and made those small changes for your health.
00:19:12.359 --> 00:19:22.926
When it comes to your nutrition, now some people watching documentary or even listening to this episode they might feel overwhelmed by all the options that are out there for wellness.
00:19:22.926 --> 00:19:27.063
So what's one powerful first step that you would recommend they take?
00:19:27.355 --> 00:19:30.277
Yeah, I think don't try to change everything at once.
00:19:30.277 --> 00:19:31.219
You will get overwhelmed.
00:19:31.219 --> 00:19:33.484
But start to add one thing to your life.
00:19:33.484 --> 00:19:36.580
Continue with whatever you're doing right now, whatever your current lifestyle is.
00:19:36.580 --> 00:19:47.128
Add a 10 minute walk, add a five minute gratitude, add eating, one nutritious thing, add that apple or pear, whatever right.
00:19:47.128 --> 00:19:52.589
So continue with what you're doing, but just add one thing and then slowly another and then another.
00:19:52.589 --> 00:19:54.957
I mean it's not going to happen overnight.
00:19:54.957 --> 00:19:58.817
You're going to have to take small steps, but at some point in your journey you will wake up.
00:19:58.817 --> 00:20:03.126
Now most people wake up when it's too late or when you know they've gone too far.
00:20:03.126 --> 00:20:08.948
But you know, just by you adding those small daily practices over time will make a big difference.
00:20:09.535 --> 00:20:11.821
And maybe have a bigger why as to why you want to do it as well.
00:20:11.821 --> 00:20:13.185
Is it for yourself, is it for your family?
00:20:13.185 --> 00:20:18.327
But take small steps at a time and just add one healthy habit continually.
00:20:18.327 --> 00:20:21.603
Once that's in place, do the next one and you'll get there.
00:20:21.603 --> 00:20:22.325
Man, you'll get there.
